3 AMAZING NURSE PRACTITIONER STUDENT APP SUBSCRIPTIONS
These are paid apps that I use every day! I wish I knew about them from day 1 of my NP clinical rotations and one of them I wish I had from day 1 of nurse practitioner school. There are so many apps and subscriptions out there it can be a challenge to know where to start. If you have ANY questions about any of the apps please feel free to reach out! AMBOSS is seriously THE BEST! This is the app that I wish I had from day one of nurse practitioner school. It is marketed towards medical students but I definitely recommend this for easy learning when you’re taking your pathophysiology course in nurse practitioner school and for referencing pathophysiology throughout your program. This app has so much more though! The design of the app is amazing. Key terms are underlined and you can hover your mouse over the term for descriptions and diagrams. This helps you “connect the dots” and keeps you in the flow of learning without having to look up terms you are unfamiliar with.
It costs $9.99/mo for student access which is totally worth it! I pay $12.99/mo for clinician access which gives you an “on call survival guide” and “care checklists.”
EPOCRATES is a workhorse for nurse practitioner students and nurse practitioners. There is a free version that offers drug interaction checks, complete drug information, including prescribing information. I personally have decided to subscribe to the premium version for $16.99/mo or $175/year. The premium version offers SO MUCH. Treatment guidelines, labs, treatment guide, and alternative medicine information.
The app is amazing but if you access the premium features on the epocrates website, you can look up a disease and have a solid reference and easy to access layout of assessment findings, what tests to order, and what interventions to provide. This is so valuable for the new nurse practitioner or NP student!

SANFORD GUIDE is the holy grail of antibiotic reference in healthcare. They have a book that is great but I LOVE THE APP! Again, I wish I knew about this from day one of my nurse practitioner clinical rotations. The app is beautiful and easy to use. You can search any antibiotic indication such as community acquired pneumonia, UTI, soft tissue infection, etc. and you will find an easy to read description, etiology, treatment regiments, etc. This app is a lifesaver for nurse practitioner students as antibiotic prescribing can be a tricky art to learn.
